Joining the SE Portland Tool Library is easy! Membership is completely free and will allow you to borrow up to 7 tools a week. To join you need to be:

You will need to follow these simple steps:

  1. Read the Tool Library Rules.
  2. Read and sign our Membership Agreement & Liability waiver (You may wish to print and fill out this form at home to speed the registration process, or simply obtain it when you visit us.)
  3. Provide proof of Identity (a driver’s license, passport, or other government-issued ID with photo).
  4. Provide proof of residency (a utility bill, mortgage statement, lease agreement, car-insurance card, or similar document).
  5. Like to shorten the wait on the line when you come in to register? Easy: enter your info online (you'll stiill have to fill out the paper form though!) - when you do the typing, we don't have to!

That's it! Simply bring your documents to the Tool Library during our Saturday or Tuesday hours and we'll happily sign you up!

You'll be able to borrow up to 7 tools at a time, which are due 7 days later - before 10am on Saturday or 6:30pm on Tuesday - or you will incur a fine.

Also, remember that you will not be allowed to use someone else's membership, to share your member number with someone else, or to borrow tools on someone else's behalf.
